Mini Selfridges Haul

Some of you may know I had two horrendous experiences with Selfridges just before Christmas. Firstly, I purchased their infamous 'unlucky bag' and secondly the Origins Christmas presents I ordered 5 weeks late AFTER Christmas!

By way of apology I received a £25 voucher which I was very pleased with :) However, it's actually quite hard to pick something in this price range from Selfridges! Especially with their hefty £4.95 delivery charge.

Eventually I settled for a 30ml MAC Strobe Cream and an Archpelago Paramour travel candle.

I've been wanting a liquid highlighter for a while and is heard good things about the MAC Strobe Cream. The 30ml size is perfect as I can never imagine using this all up. There is a full size available but apparently the packaging is harder so you waste some of the product. MAC Strobe Cream has a lovely pearly finish with purple undertones. I like to use it to highlight brow bones, cheek bones and my Cupid's bow. I know lots of other people like to mix it with full coverage foundations too to lighten them.

I chose the Archipelago candle as I'm a sucker for scented candles and the Paramour fragrance sounded yummy to me - pomegranate, papaya and mango. It also appealed as it apparently has 55 hours of burn time for only £8.50! Archipelago candles are soy wax candles which are supposed to burn more cleanly and efficiently. This is where I was disappointed. My candle smokes like mad! I've tried trimming the wick but this hasn't solved it. Maybe I got a duff one? Anyway, it's a shame as it throws a beautiful scent.

Overall I'm pleased with my little freebies and delivery from Selfridges was good this time. However, I'm still not sure i will continue to shop online there!

DIY L'Oreal Wild Ombré

I've been considering the ombré look for a while now and being on maternity leave seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a go!

I chose the kit suitable for dark brown hair. They suggest applying the lightener from between your ears and chin. However, I started at my chin as I wasn't sure a lighter shade would look great next to my skin tone. I left it on for 30 minutes - half way between the min and max times as I was terrified of turning platinum blonde!

As you can see the resulting colour is definitely not blonde. More of a light coppery brown. This actually probably suits me better than blonde but is bordering on ginger!

The other problem is its difficult to achieve a graduated effect. In places the line is quite harsh.

What do you think? Have you tried the ombré trend? Do you think I should go back to my natural colour?

Hello to Safiya Amelie!

Now if you're wondering why I haven't posted in a while... here she is!!! My gorgeous daughter Safiya Amelie.  :D

I had a pretty traumatic birth due to the incompetence at my local hospital but luckily she arrived perfectly healthy and happy.

She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and feel so proud to be her mummy.

Unfortunately we are struggling with colic and reflux at the moment so she needs a lot of attention hence the lack of posts.  I hope to be back to blogging some time soon but Saffy comes first right now :)

Steam Cream Review

Steam Cream was the product that swayed my decision to buy the Latest in Beauty Advent Calendar (at half price admittedly)  The cute collectable tins caught my eye as well as the fact that they are all natural.  Here is the limited edidion tin I received:

The texture of this cream looks very thick - its appearance reminded me of tubs of Nivea that I used to use for moisturisation as a teen.  However, when I applied the Steam Cream I noticed that it almost had a watery texture to it, quickly disappearing into the skin.  I am guessing this is due to the steam 'injection' they give the cream?
The scent of this moisturiser is heavily lavendar based.  Fine for me as I like the relaxing scent of lavendar and it really does smell like the plant rather than an old fashioned synthetic scent.  However, for those who don't I should imagine this would be far too overpowering - like sticking your head in a lavendar bush!
Steam Cream seems to be working great for me whilst my skin is behaving.  However, I can imagine that if you were having any form of breakout or sensitivity this probably wouldn't be of much help.  Also, if you are looking for a miracle wrinkle removing product this won't produce any miracles.

At £12.95 for 75ml I thought this was pretty reasonable for a facial moisturiser.  However, it is supposed to be multi-use and if I was to use it solely as a body moisturiser I wouldn't be as impressed with the price.

Overall, I think Steam Cream is a perfectly good facial moisturiser for well balanced, calm skin and I will continue to use this for the time being.  The packaging is beautiful and so are the all natural ingredients.  However, I may need to switch over if I have any skin troubles after baby is born!

Are you a Steam Cream fan?  Or were you less than impressed?

Elemis Skin Nourishing Shower Cream

So for Christmas I got to lovely huge Elemis gift sets from my partner and I'm having to resist from opening all the products at once!  A real star that I have started to use already though is the Elemis Skin Nourishing Shower Cream.

Elemis Skin Nourishing Shower Cream doesn't look like anything spectacular.  The colour and packaging of the product suggests that it is a basic moisturising shower cream.  I assumed it wouldn't smell that exciting as it is aimed at those with dry sensitive skin.

However, one shower with this and I am completely hooked!  It smells absolutely beautiful.  I would describe it as a comforting scent almost like baby powder but not so floral.  It has a subtle sweetness to it too.  Lush used to make a bubble bath bar called Hot Milk and it reminds me of that.

Best of all a teeny blob of Elemis Skin Nourishing Shower Cream on a shower scrunchie or sponge makes loads of creamy foam which is incredible as it is SLS free.  I love smothering myself in it and when the suds eventually go sometimes I can't resist another helping!

I'm a bit gutted at the steep price for a shower cream - £22 for 300ml?!?  However, I really do love it so I will be on the look out for discounts or when it appears in Elemis gift sets again.  I think this is now one of my top Elemis products and would like to try the other Skin Nourishing products in the range.

Have you tried this or any of the other Elemis Skin Nourishing products?  Are you equally in love?

Christmas Gift Boxes - Hello Kitty Liberty, Ted Baker and Soap and Glory

I'm a sucker for a nice gift box stuffed with mini beauty treats.  I get to sample different ranges and then am left with a lovely box for storage (this time I'll be using them to organise my nail polish collection!)  This Christmas I was lucky enough to receive 3 of these gift sets - Soap and Glory, Hello Kitty Liberty and Ted Baker.  Aren't the boxes lovely?  I particularly love the ballet dancer design Ted Baker have created this year - very me!

Soap and Glory

I always love to have a little stash of Soap and Glory's best selling products.  My favourites in here are Hand Food and The Righteous Butter.  Both are really rich without being greasy and smell just yum!  A body puff was also included but that is currently residing in my shower...

Hello Kitty Liberty

You have probably seen my other post of this range and personally I love it's design!  Combining the cuteness of Hello Kitty with the retro styling of Liberty Art Prints.  I have yet to try these products but they look beautiful in my bathroom.  I go crazy for nice packaging!

Ted Baker

I love the ballet dancer design and purple colour of the Ted Baker packaging this year.  My favourite colour and I used to dance!  I'm not usually a body spray user but this dinky body spritz smells beautiful.  A perfect handbag size too for quick freshen ups.

Did you receive any treat boxes like these?  What do you use the empty boxes for?
