Leighton Denny New Year New You Collection Review

When this collection came on QVC I knew I had to have it!  It was fantastic value also (from what I can remember it was £30?) but the big selling point for me was it included 4 of the most popular Leighton Denny Nail Colours; Rebel (a deep shimmering purple), I Love Juicy (deep warm orange), Jailbird (a shimmering teal) and Plush Pink (a classic hot pink).  Here they all are in a neat little foam stand which came with the set and can be reused:

I hope to review the colours on their own when I've had a chance to try them all!  Along with the colours came the Leighton Denny Brilliance Treatment Regime.  This included a serum, a shield and nail polish remover.  I have yet to try this regime as it is for stained nails and to be honest this is one of the few problems I don't have with my nails!  It is supposed to be moisturising also though so it should be a good regime to alternate with my Leighton Denny Bio Build.

A new product that was included is Leighton Denny Illuminating Hand Cream.  It's a good size tube and I really like this as a cosmetic handcream.  When you first apply it it is quite liquid and even as you are rubbing it in it looks like it won't sink in and turns your hands a bit white!  However, after massaging in it leaves your  hands with a lovely youthful sheen and blurs any imperfections.  I love this at this time of year as I suffer from Raynauds Syndrome which leaves my hands horrible and red and lumpy bumpy :(

Probably the thing that people pay least attention to is the bag these kind of collections come in.  However, I LOVE this mock croc bag and it has become my make-up bag for my handbag!  It doesn't take up too much room in your bag but at the same time its long enough to fit brushes, nail files, mascara etc.

Unfortunately, the Leighton Denny New Year New You Collection is no longer available on QVC.  However, I would highly recommend the nail colours individually!

Boots Advantage Point Mini Haul!

As its still not pay day for me yet but fancied a little treat I decided to use my Boots Advantage Card points.  As you can see I bought Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Deep Nourishing Intensive Mask. (£2.03 on offer at the mo!)

I fancied a hair treat as although I am currently using Liz Earle Haircare I felt like my ends needed a bit of extra loving cair.  This smells DELISH!  The smell is described as Hawaaian coconut with orchid.  It's lovely and thick and I'm sure some people will say Herbal Essence is filled with lots of nasty chemicals and silicones but I just love a big value pot of conditioner that I can just take a huge dollop and slap on!  I did this this after and wrapped my hair in a towel for 1 hr even though they suggest 5 minutes.

I was really pleased with the results - it didn't make my hair lank or weighed down as some deep conditioners do.  Instead, it left my hair feeling light and bouncy!  Very pleased with this bargain.

I went for the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer after finding my Bare Minerals Foundation wasn't covering all my blemishes.  I used to use Collection 2000 Perfecting Minerals Powder Foundation before they discontinued it so I knew they made some decent budget products.  I'd also seen some fab reviews from fellow bloggers on this product and thought it must be good as their usual faves are more high-end.

Having given it a quick try it definitely provides good coverage.  The colour (Light 2) is perfect for my skintone.  Its creamy and easy to apply and doesn't look cakey.  I am also hoping it will last the 16 hours it suggests!  I'm a 'face toucher' and my make-up is pretty much non-existent by the end of the day :(

Both of these products are lovely buys for when the pennies are tight.  I would definitely recommend them both!

Bare Minerals Cocktail Party Lipgloss Collection Review

The Bare Minerals Cocktail Party Lipgloss Collection was bought for me by my partner a few months ago as a girly pick me up.  Included are 4 Bare Mineral Natural Lipglosses in Fruit Punch, With a Twist, Plumtini and Kir Royale.  I already had a full sized Bare Minerals Natural Lipgloss in Peach Cobbler so I knew I liked the texture - moisturising and not sticky.  The colours in this collection are really easy to wear.  2 of them are sheer and slightly sparkly (Fruit Punch and Kir Royale) and the other 2 are more opaque, like lipstick colours.

Here is a brief description of each colour:
Fruit Punch

This is a barely there lipgloss - a peachy sheer colour with a hint of sparkle.  This is nice and easy to apply as you probably won't need a mirror.

Kir Royale

Slightly darker, though you can't really tell in this photo.  Again, a very sheer gloss with a hint of sparkle but more plum than peach.

With a Twist

A pearlescent sugary pink.  More solid in colour and very girly.  I like this for a more made up look without the colour being overpowering.

Probably my favourite colour out of the four.  This is a juicy plum colour with a very fine purple shimmer running through it.  This suits my colouring best and I like that the colour is quite strong but the gloss means its not too heavy looking.

Bare Minerals Cocktail Party is a lovely collection and the petite sizes mean I can carry them all around with me and alternate throughout the day!  I think the colours would suit most people.

Leighton Denny Slick Tips Review

Leighton Denny Slick Tips (don't say it too fast now!) is a product I've had for a while.  In fact, it is probably one of the first Leighton Denny products I tried.  Put simply this is a nail and cuticle oil.  It softens and moisturises cuticles and well as giving a moisturised healthy sheen to nails.  I find this is great for after buffing your nails to keep the shine but also re-moisturise.

Leighton Denny Slick Tips is one of those products that I just love using even if I don't need to.  I slap it on when I'm going colour free but also over colour to refresh a manicure.  You can apply as often as you like and the smell is divine!  I'd describe it as having a fresh lemongrass scent.  Good value too as it lasts for ages.

The Sanctuary Spa Perfect Pamper Box Review

The Sanctuary Spa Perfect Pamper Box was another gorgeous gift from my partner for Christmas.  As you can see it is absolutely HUGE so perfect for real Santuary fans like me!

It all comes in a beautiful hard vanity case which has a mirror in the lid.  I was put off buying this for a gift for someone else as the box is quite bulky, but for me, its perfect!  It fits nicely on my bathroom shelf and best of all it fits all of the products with space for more!  I use mine to store some of my most used 'reserve' products.

My favourite product inside has to be The Sanctuary Body Butter.  This is a whopping 300ml.  The smell is absolutely gorgeous and its very moisturising without being greasy.

My second favourite is the Sanctuary Foaming Bath Soak (250ml).  With the same signature Sanctuary scent a squeeze of this produces lots of creamy bubbles.

The Sanctuary Body Wash (250ml) smells equally as lovely but doesn't produce very much lather.  However, it does contain little pink pearls of jojoba and sesame oil which moisturise the skin.

I wouldn't usually buy a body scrub but the Sanctuary Body Scrub is one of the nicest I've tried.  It contains pumice which sounds harsh but I like to feel like a scrub is doing something!  It doesn't feel too rough though and again it leaves the skin nicely scented and beautifully smooth.

I haven't used the Sanctuary Intensive Heel Balm yet but having a sniff it is the one product that doesn't have the usual Sanctuary scent.  Instead, it smells fresh and minty like most foot products.  The balm looks super rich which is probably why its smaller in size and I'm sure it would be fantastic massaged in and then popping a pair of socks on for an overnight treat.

Finally, a travel size Sanctuary Body Lotion was included.  This is not as rich as the Body Butter but absorbs very quickly make it a nice daily treat.

Oh, and I forgot!  A snazzy shower cap for those long baths when you don't want to get your hair wet! hehe  I've never bothered with one before but this has actually proved very handy!
The Sanctuary Spa Perfect Pamper Box is my idea of a really indulgent girly gift.  The box jam packed full of goodies makes me smile everytime I walk in my bathroom!  The individual items are affordable enough to top up myself and the scent is very me.  Warm, comforting and indulgent.  10 out of 10!

Bare Minerals Bright and Beautiful Collection Review - Bargain!!!

This is the second Bright & Beautiful collection I have purchased from Bare Minerals and in my opinion its one of their best value sets.  Especially as this was in the Debenhams sale reduced from £48 to £32!!!!

Here are the contents:

  • Original SPF 15 Foundation 8g,
  • Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer
  • Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer 8ml
  • Smoke Eyecolor 0.57g
  • Big & Bright Eyeliner in Charcoal 0.35g
  • Pink Petal Blush 0.35g
  • Natural Lipgloss in Fruit Cocktail 4.2ml
  • Flawless Application Face Brush

  • All impressive full sizes which is what I look for in a Bare Minerals collection.  They seem to do an awful lot of sets which contain disappointing 2g pots which is great for newbies but not so if you're a die hard addict!

This set also comes in a 'peaches and green' colour scheme which is identical apart from the lipgloss, eyecolour and blush.  I previously bought this kit from QVC at a higher price but still find it to be good value.

I use all of these products daily and am seriously impressed by them all so will be reviewing them  separately at a later date but here are my quick summaries.  Excuse the lack of my own photos!  Hopefully there will be more to come.

    Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer

Love the original Prime Time and this has a peachy sheen to it.  Works very similar except it seems more 'liquid'
    Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer

Gold shimmering base.  I've seen lots of people complaining about the 'sparkle' but I love it on its own as a shadow or as a good way of making other shadows stay put.

    Smoke Eyecolour

A very neutral shade.  No shimmer so great for every day.

Big and Bright Eyeliner in Charcoal

Soft and smudgy and great for creating smoky eye looks.  I especially like the smudging tip and sharpener hidden in the end.

    Pink Petal Blush

Looks extremely bright in the pot but disappointingly subtle on my skin.  Should suit most skin tones though.

    Natural Lipgloss in Fruit Cocktail

Bare Minerals lipglosses are amazing.  Good pigment and coverage but not too sticky.  Needs to be reapplied quite often though.

    Bored Nail Experimentation!

I've been ill and off work for the past few days and today I was starting to feel the cabin fever setting in.  My partner has been lovely and spoiling me rotten by supplying me with goodies and a gorgeous bunch of flowers.  However, whilst he was at work I thought I would try out a new nail look to kill the boredom.  Here it is:

I've noticed a lot of people doing the 'ring finger manicure' and thought I'd give it a try with a few subtle colours first.  I've used Nails Inc Birdcage Walk (a pale nude pink) on the ring finger, then The Southbank (solid pale grey) on the rest.  Then for an added bit of glitz I used Leighton Denny's Millionaire as a top coat.  This is a lovely shimmery lilac/pink but as it is very sheer I rarely use it on its own, more for 'cocktailing' colours.  Here are the products below:

Please excuse the state of the bottles - they are probably my oldest Nails Inc!  I think I'll give this look a go again - I do have around 60 bottles of nail polish to experiment with currently!!!  Let me know what you think :)

Babyliss 2098 Elegance Metallic Purple Straighteners Review

I have the kind of hair that can't decide whether it's curly or it's straight.  This means I am constantly having to rely on some kind of styling tool (I wish I was a blow drying expert but after years of trying I'm not!)  Straighteners are a godsend to me but with so many on the market its hard to find the perfect and affordable pair.

The obvious choice are GHDs but from what I'm hearing they seem to just be sailing on their established reputation.  I have heard horror stories of forking out for them only for them to break 6 months later! (Their 2 year guarantee is no better than other cheaper brands which suggests they're not made to last...)

However, after thorough research my partner purchased these beauties for me for Christmas:

Aren't they preeettyyyy?  The gorgeous marbled metallic purple colour caught my eye first along with the matching satin carry pouch but reading reviews on Amazon I was sold!  Here is a little break down of it's features:

    -  Heats up in just 15 seconds
    -  Max temp of 230 degrees
    -  3m length cable
    -  3 heat settings
    -  Titanium ceramic plates
    -  Auto shut off
    -  5 year guarantee

Yes - a 5 year guarantee!  This tells me they're built to last and that's important to me having several pairs die on me in the past for no apparent reason.

Now for how I find them.  These are so easy to use and extremely lightweight so no tired arms!  The smooth plates make sure there is no snagging and breaking of the hair.  There is a very quiet buzz which is the sound of 'ions being released' apparently?!?  This sound doesn't bother me in the slightest however.

To me, these are every bit as impressive as high end brands such as GHD and their popularity has shown in their recent price increase.  At the time I was looking at them they started at around £49.99.  However, by the time Christmas approached they were selling out everywhere and were going for up to £129.99!!!  Grab a pair quick if you are looking for a good value, long lasting pair of hair straighteners.

January Beauty Box - New Year, New You

Had to go and pick this months beauty box up from the Post Office which is a bit of pain.  I wonder if there was anyway they could make their packaging more letterbox sized?  I hate having to make a special trip.... Anyway, here is the contents of this months box:

    Lierac Coherance L.IR Infrared Cream
I'll definitley be trying this after I've finish my Elemis Pro-collagen Marine Cream.  A good 15 ml size pot and I like the way its packaged nicely in its own box just as it would be if you bought it individually.  I'm afraid I'm not an eco-girl - I love piles of pretty packaging! :D

Dead Sea Spa Magik Salt Brushing
This looks like heavy duty stuff - 2 sachets of sea salts combined with coconut oil and vitamin E that you are supposed to scrub all over your body with a body brush.  I'm not a huge fan of scrubs as I don't get dry skin on my arms or legs.  However, I'm sure I'll try this out at the end of winter!  I think the way its packaged could also be a bit messy - I take it you're supposed to use the whole lot in one go?!?

    Caudalie Vinotherapie Nourishing Body Lotion
A nice travel sized body lotion (30ml)  Smells gorgeous - fresh but perfumed.  It also says it helps to prevent stretch marks.  I will probably be putting this in my bag of travel toilletries.

Phyto PhytoBaume Color Protect Express Conditioner
Another good travel sized product.  Although I have stopped colouring my hair I will still be trying this as a conditioning treatment.

    Green People Gentle Cleanse
I got excited when I saw this as I thought it was some kind of lip treatment because of the packaging! (My partner and I are lip product fiends)  However, it is a rather small tube of cleanser.  It does say its organice which makes me more inclined to try it but now I've found a cleanser that works I'm loathed to switch.

Having seen other people's review of this box I was expected to be disappointed and even thought of cancelling.  However, I think this is a nice selection nearly of which all I will try.  My only criticism is I wish they had included more popular/well known brands.  I've got my fingers crossed for some Decleor/Bare Minerals/Elemis in a box soon!!!!

    Splurger or a saver?

With all my lovely Christmas goodies I've been having a think about how I use my products.  Beauty products are my real treat as I don't have many other vices like smoking or drinking.

However, when I get a new treat to try, the temptation is to dive in a take a huge scoop of the new magic goop and lather myself in it (like my Santuary Body Butter - yuummmmy!)  But at the same time I don't want it to run out and then have to replace it a pricey 5 minutes later (like my Pro-Collagen Marine Cream - eek!)

So are you a splurger or a saver?  My current tactic is to read up other people's reviews of products and see what rate they use them at as well as checking the 'use within' dates on the packaging.  Obsessive moi?  Not much ;)

Elemis Tranquil Indulgence Face and Body Set (including a close rival to my favourite cleanser!)

Look at this beautiful set of Elemis goodies!  One of my amazing Christmas presents from my equally amazing partner.  It includes 5 full sized products in a gorgeous blue patent bag.  This is the first time I have had any Elemis products of my own and boy am I impressed!  The only time I have tried them before is at the Aqua Sana spa in Elveden - one of our favourite escapes so it brings back happy memories :)  Here is a brief review of each of the products INCLUDING a possible rival to my favourite cleanser....

This smells beautiful and a little goes a long way!  Half a cap produces plenty of gently scented bubbles.  A new favourite weekend treat for me :)  Like all Elemis products looks pretty on the bathroom shelf too ;)

An amazing luxury multi purpose product.  This can be used on your hair, nails, lips basically anywhere on your body!  It starts of solid but if you leave the bottle in your bath whilst you bathe it turns into its liquid form.  The smell is so exotic and it leaves your skin soft but unually for an oil, not greasy.  Lots of spas use this for their massage treatments so worth it for a little bit of spa at home.

Now this is a close competitor with Liz Earles Cleanse and Polish in my opinion.  Used in almost the same way it removes every trace of make-up and leaves your skin feeling soft, clean and moisturised.  The only difference in application being they suggest you leave the cream on for at least 1 minute before removing with either a muslin cloth or cleansing mitts.  However, it is considerably more expensive so I think this one will be a one off treat :)

I've struggled to find a moisturiser that I love other than Lacuras serum (which doesn't really count as the name suggests - its a serum!)  This though definitely ticks all my boxes.  Lightweight yet moisturising.  Quick absorbing.  Non-greasy.  Long-lasting.  Yummy smelling.  I would definitely like to continue using this.  But have you seen the price?  Yikes....

Now this isn't even available for sale by itself yet!  I don't really have a problem with dry hands so I'm not a big hand cream user.  My usual favourite is Soap and Glory's Hand Food (which by the way is very good!)  This though really impressed me.  As it goes on it feels very rich.  However, it absorbs extremely quickly.  I've seen others suggest that it is used a hand mask also at night.  Again, smells delicious and I reckon this 100 ml tube will last me a very long time!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Starter Gift with Instant Boost Skin Tonic

I've already raved over Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish but I couldn't resist showing off this gorgeous starter gift set I received from my mummy :)

It has a full 100ml size of my favourite cleanser and a mini travel 30ml spray bottle of Instant Boost Skin Tonic.  This little bottle of loveliness is Liz Earle's equivalent of a toner but without the usual harsh drying alcohol.  Instead it is more off a refreshing spritz which smells gorgeous and leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean but with a light moisturising effect. The gorgeous smell probably has something to do with the ingredients: rose-scented geranium, aloe vera, cucumber and calendular.  All very soothing and calming.

The little spray bottle is useful as an instant pick me up.  However, I was also lucky enough to get a full size 200ml bottle which comes with a useful 'twist and pour' lid.  This is handy for soaking cotton wool pads and sweeping over your face for a proper tone.

Final little tip - I find using this with cotton pads is a good way of removing any missed bits of eye make-up (it really is that gentle!)  Not that Cleanse and Polish doesn't do the job - I can just be a bit slapdash when in a rush....

All in all I love this just as much as the Cleanse and Polish.  Happy skin all round!  Thank you mummy!

    Happy New Year!!!

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas.  I had the best yet and was totally spoilt!  I'll be reviewing some of gifts in the weeks to come - I've got quite a few to get through!  Happy reading :)  You might even find something to treat yourself to in the sales....
