Sunday DIY! Easy Furniture Update

This is not one of my usual beauty posts.  However, inspired by Peonies and Sweet Peas amazing furniture revamp with wallpaper I decided to give it a go myself!  I have 2 rather nice but plain bedside cabinets that looked like this:

Wanting to tie them in with my duck egg blue bedroom I went to Wilkinsons and grabbed myself some (rather large!) wallpaper samples.  I also bought myself a can of spray adhesive.  I wasn't sure this would be strong enough to do the job but so far so good!  In fact, it went so well I decided to make a matching lampshade for my bedside lamp.  Here is the finished result:

Everytime I look at them I smile!  It only took me around 45 mins and I'm really pleased with the result :D  At only £3 for the spray adhesive it was a complete bargain too!  Now I've got to try and stop myself from wallpapering all of my furniture....

Have you got any quick and cheap ways of updating interiors and furniture?

GOSH Eyebrow Palette Review

After having my HD Brows done at Zen Spa Edinburgh I decided I need a product to keep them looking in tip top shape between treatments.  Having browsed the shops I was torn between the GOSH Eyebrow Palette and the Sleek Brow Kit.  I settled on the GOSH Eyebrow Palette as it included 3 shades of brow powder, a neat little brush and sponge applicator plus a clear wax.  The Sleek Brow Kit did have the addition of some cute mini tweezers but the colours were limited and wax based.  I was swiftly bought it as an early birthday present :D  (well I couldn't live with ungroomed brows for a month!)

The packaging is quite plain but nice and neat.  The compact is easy to open and the powders and wax are laid out nicely.  However, the wax does get a bit messy as you can see!  I like to use the darkest shade powder so I can see this running out quickly though the mid brown is good for a more natural look.  Applicator wise this is great as it gives you the option of brush or sponge.  I prefer the brush as it is angled - perfect for creating defined brows.

The GOSH Eyebrow Palette is a brilliant product that I can't live without now - I feel naked without it on!  I'd highly recommend it for brows of all colours due to the neutral range.  For those whose brows are a bit more unruly you may need a brow gel as well to keep them in place as the wax  just gives a nice sheen.  Great price too at £7.50 from Superdrug!

What's currently in my make-up bag?

I'm not one of these girls who rushes to the loo every 15 minutes to touch up her make-up.  I wish I was but I can't be bothered to make the walk that often!  So here is what's currently in my make-up bag that goes with me to work:

Bare Minerals Blush in Pink Petal
This isn't my favourite Bare Minerals Blush Shade but I like to have something on hand to perk up my pasty complexion on rough days!

My all time favourite lipbalm.  Read my review above and find out why!

Leighton Denny Illuminating Hand Cream
Smells lovely, really light and a nice handbag sized tube.

Arabic Perfume Oil
My partner introduced me to these.  A tiny roller-ball of powerful oil, this is great for long-lasting scent.  This particular one smells like YSL Cinema one of my all time favourite perfumes.

Super Colour Fabulipstick in Perfect Day
Fantastic pigmentation, long-lasting and non-drying.  Everything I look for in a lipstick.  Read my full review here.

Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum Sample
This smells beautiful.  A sexy, feminine, classic fragrance.  I love this as I'm not a fan of more modern 'fresh' smelling scents.  Also love that its Eau de Parfum rather than Eau de Toillette.

Mini QVS Tweezers
How cute are these?  They came free with a full sized pair from Superdrug.  I'm currently obsessed with my brows so great for removing any strays as soon as I notice them!  Love the pink colour too.

Bare Minerals Natural Lipgloss in With a Twist
Great for work as I can apply at my desk without a mirror.  Moisturising and non-sticky, read my full review here.

Hope you enjoy the little nosey :)

Sudocrem - the secret spot killer!

There's been a lot of talk in the press at the moment about an unusual cure for spots and blemishes - namely good old-fashioned Sudocrem!  Until I read about this I only knew of it as a remedy for nappy rash - not something I'd consider putting on my face.  However, tubs have been flying off the shelves in supermarkets and low and behold when I went to Tescos to buy myself this miracle cure they only had dinky 60g pots left.  However, you do only need a tiny bit and at £2.39 a tub its a super bargain!

Having tried this on blemishes as they first start to appear I have noticed the redness subsides and they seem to clear up quicker.  The only downside is it is very thick and white and therefore can only be applied at night.

Do you swear by Sudocream for clearing up breakouts?  Or do you have any unusual beauty cheats/tricks yourself?

Percy and Reed Glamour Freebies Review

This month has been great for magazine freebies and I think the best value has to be the choice of 4 Percy and Reed products with Glamour Magazine.  These included; Splendidly Silky Moisturising Shampoo, Splendidly Silky Moisturising Conditioner, Totally TLC Hydrating Mask and Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish.  Naturally, my partner bought me 4 magazines so I could get them all :D

Splendidly Silky Moisturising Shampoo
This smells gorgeous - very fresh and leaves a long lasting scent on your hair.  However, as it is so highly perfumed I found it really dried my scalp out and left me itching like mad!  It definitley left my hair shiny and moisturised but I just can't put up with the irritation.

Splendidly Silky Moisturising Conditioner
The whole range appears to be in the same scent and luckily I am able to use the conditioner as it does not come into contact with my scalp.  This left my hair really moisurised and tangle free.  Exactly what I like a conditioner to do.

Totally TLC Hydrating Mask
A really nice 'booster' treatment for the hair.  You apply this to your hair after shampooing then wrap it in a towel and leave for as long as possible to give dry and damaged hair a real treat.  I love most hair masks and probably use them more than I should!

Flawless Finishing Polish
This is probably my favourite product from the collection.  When I first squeezed a pea sized amount out I wasn't sure how it was going to make any difference to my style.  It is a white cream which looks the same as a conditioner would.  However, I rubbed this between my fingers then smoothed all over my flyaway roots and tadaaaa!  My hair was smooth and shiny without looking greasy in the slightest.  This has been great for me because neither hairspray or serum has been able to calm my flyaway bits without making my hair look stuck to my head and oily.  I'm sure this would work as great on frizz.

Percy and Reed is a lovely looking haircare range, each product decorate with a line drawing of a stylish girl.  Girly but subtle at the same time!  Their scents are amazing but you may want to be careful if you have a sensitive scalp like myself.

As Featured in Zen Lifestyle - UK Salon of the Year!

Recently I wrote a post regarding my recent HD Brow treatment at Zen Lifestyle Salon in Hanover Street, Edinburgh.  They were so pleased with my review they decided to include a link on their own website.  Please take a peak at Zen Lifestyle - they really are a fantastic salon, I just wish they were closer to home!

O.P.I. Best of the Best Review

Another lovely present from Christmas I have only just got round to reviewing!  I love O.P.I. minis - they mean you can try a wide variety of colours without worrying about not using up a huge bottle!  This set is particularly good as the Best of the Best collection includes exactly what it says - 5 of O.P.I.s most popular colours.  Each is beautiful glossy and highly pigmented.  Here is a quick rundown of the shades (left to right)

Big Apple Red - A classic creme red that every girl should own.  Perfect for retro 1950s style manicures.

I'm Not Really a Waitress - Random name!  But my absolute favourite :)  A stunning shimmering deep red.  I really loved wearing this over the festive season.

You Don't Know Jacques! - A creamy taupe.  Taupes seem to be really popular at the moment as a classy alternative to the french manicure.  I think this colour is lovely but unfortunately it makes my hands look a little red :(

Russian Navy - This is I'm Not Really a Waitresses blue sister.  A gorgeous deep shimmering blue.  Needs a few coats to show its full beauty.

Lincoln Park After Dark - I'd been lusting after this for a while having seen it on a quite a few QVC presenters nails.  A deep purple on screen but in the flesh it's almost black!  Still lovely though.

O.P.I. Best of the Best is a great collection to try if you haven't used their colours before.  All five shades are great and I can see myself using them all up!

Leighton Denny Renovate Review

As some of my readers will already know, I'm a bit of a Leighton Denny fan.  This is particularly true of his treatments as they are the only ones that have come close to fixing my poorly nails!  I was using Leighton Denny BioBuild for a while and you can see my previous review of this here.  This is a great treatment regime and my nails were feeling stronger but I still had a real problem with peeling.

My next move was to swipe Leighton Denny's Renovate from my man (don't ask me why he had some - he has perfect nails!) All this consists of is a teeny tube of nail cream and a duo buffer.  First you remove the ridges using the buffer then you massage the teeniest dot of cream into each nail.  When this has absorbed, you use the shining side of the buffer to seal in the cream and waterproof your nails.  You repeat the cream and shining every morning and night.

This stuff has REALLY worked.  I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and finally my nails have grown enough so as I can file off the peeling edges.  They are well on their way to being long and strong like they were when I was a teenager!  They also look lovely and healthy and pink because of the buffing.

What I love most about this treatment is how simple it is to use.  There's nothing that needs removing so you can avoid using damaging nail varnish remover until your nails are completely sorted.  I am really hoping this continues to work for me!  Then I get to try out my new Leighton Denny colours...

17 Brush Collection Review

I am only just getting round to reviewing this lovely brush set and pouch that I received for Christmas from my mum (mainly because it is in use every single day!) This 17 Brush Set came with a blusher, lip, eye liner and eyeshadow brush.  As you can see there is also plenty of room for all my other Bare Mineral brushes and other tools.  I like the clear protective flap over the brushes as this protects them from splaying or catching on the brushes on the other side.

The brushes themselves are synthetic and really soft so lovely to use.  The blusher brush is on the small side but I like this for carrying around in my handbag makeup bag.  My favourite brush is the eyeshadow brush though I have recently started using the lip brush also and am impressed with this too.

This 17 Brush Set is a really lovely designed brush pouch, small enough to carry around but roomy enough inside for plenty of tools.  A lot better than my previous storage of a glass for my brushes!

I'm back...with HD Brows!

I've just got back from a fantastic break with my partner to Edinburgh.  We did lots of sightseeing, eating and even more shopping!  I also popped into Zen Spa Edinburgh to get my HD Brows done.  For those who have not heard of them this is a seven stage process to get highly defined eyebrows.  It takes it a step further than the current trend for eyebrow threading - this includes; threading, waxing, plucking, trimming, tinting and mineral make-up.  I've been looking into the treatment for a few weeks and as the spa had £10 off in March (making it £28 - pricey I know!) I decided now would be the perfect time!  Here are the results a few days after the treatment:

BEFORE

AFTER

As you can see the brows are angled but not to create an 'angry' look.  The tone is darker and the lines are much neater as the 'fluffier' hairs above the brows are removed. My shape has remained pretty similar but they are more equal now as one looked slightly higher than the other before!  I love strongly defined, dark eyebrows so this treatment was fantastic.  Of course, this look isn't for everybody and I'm not sure I'd be as keen if I was a blonde!

As my eyebrows were already quite thick and defined I don't need to return for regrowth appointments.  The therapist advises you on where to avoid plucking and how to maintain the look with make up.  I invested in a GOSH Eyebrow Palette to do this rather than the HD version which is considerably more expensive.

The spa itself was gorgeous and the therapist, Ellie, was lovely.  It was also surprisingly relaxing despite the use of waxing and threading!  I liked that they use calming and antiseptic tonics on the skin afterwards to soothe and heal and mineral make up is applied to the area so you don't get that tell-tale redness.  It is a really thorough treatment for such a small area taking around 30 minutes so I felt I got my moneys worth.  She even got a ruler out to show me the angles she would be creating and how she would be making them more equal!

I am planning to get this done once or twice a year and maintain myself inbetween so in the end its not that pricey to have groomed brows which can change your whole face!

Have you tried HD Brows?  Or is this a trend you won't be following?

February Empties!

My list is no way near as impressive as some of my fellow bloggers but here are a few of the products I have managed to finish this month:

Soap and Glory Clean, Girls Body Wash: I've had this body wash for nearly a whole year!  It came as part of a massive Soap and Glory gift set from my sister.  This is a huge bottle and a gorgeous smelling, creamy, moisturising shower gel.
Would I repurchase? Yes!  Soap and Glory are reasonably priced and this product is very long lasting.  A real girly treat that can be used every day.

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Conditioner for Normal Hair:  I'm a big Liz Earle skincare fan so I thought I'd try their haircare.  The conditioner really wasn't rich enough for me though it lasted ages.
Would I repurchase?  Possibly.  I'm moving onto another haircare range for the time being.

Gatineau Melatogenine Futur Plus Anti-Wrinkle Mask:  This try me size was given to me by my partner from part of a set he bought.  A nice, non-drying mask that leaves the skin soft and moisturised.  However, I'm not really at the wrinkles stage yet so not sure if this works!
Would I repurchase?  Probably not due to the price and not being specifically targeted for my skin.

Gatineau Electelle Exfoliating Treatment:  This was another try me from my partner.  I really like this exfoliator as you can definitely feel the grains working without them being too harsh.  I also like the way it foams up with water.  When rinsed off it left my skin feeling smooth and soft and not at all irritated or dry.
Would I repurchase?  If it was more affordable!

Dead Sea Magik Salt Brushing Scrub: If you read my last post you'll know how I feel about this!  This scrub gave impressive after results but I cannot go through the messy, painful experience of applying this again.  It didn't even get a position in my photo!
Would I repurchase?  Definitely not.
